School Safety Report- Jeff

 School Safety

  • Reviewed the school district school safety page on the district website.
  • The SCC members discussed the Lockdown Protocols video and reviewed responsibilities of information flow down to the schools and parents during those moments.
  • SCC members brought up request to discuss with the district if they have protocol or other ideas of how the schools can keep parents aware of when more information is coming and also let the parents know the limits that the school has for receiving information from the district.
  • The SCC members noted that elementary school students do not go through the run, hide, fight drill or protocol. Only the teachers.
    • SCC members discussed how Butler Elementary introduces the Run, Hide, Fight to the teachers. The drill is learned by watching the video then discussing it amongst the teachers only.
    • The drill is done with the children, but the hide part only. The Run and Fight part of the drill is not done with the children, but the teachers are thinking about it as they go through the drill.
  • The SCC Members were asked if there were any additional safety concerns to address.
    • Nalwalker noted that the school is looking at blinds for the school. J. Nalwalker also noted that he is looking at locked gates for the playground access.  J. Nalwalker will add those to the safety report as a request.
    • One of the SCC Members requested for all SCC members to spread the word to the community waiting for their children on why parents should not be in the back of the school until the school is released.
  • The SCC members were asked what their number #1 safety concern is.
    • Three members agreed that securing the playground is the #1 safety concern.
    • Another #1 concern from another SCC member was children pickup and who is allowed to pickup the children and how that is managed.
    • SCC member 1 noted that digital safety is one of her number one concerns. The SCC member also noted that the phone policy of the lockbox is being very well received by parents and implemented by students.
    • Conset for the plan is due October 30th
