Reminder that we are moving meetings to second Tuesday of each month.
Reviewing last year’s school safety plan report:
-Locking gates during the day, securing doors
-Adding a gate at the field near the marquee because it’s an open pass through currently.
Reviewing last year’s digital citizenship:
-Educating students and sending info to the community
-Bought lockboxes for phones and watches last year. When they are not on school wifi, they are not under CSD filtering guidelines.
-Third grade does not have lock boxes. Ms. Stacy will look into that.
Parys Lightel – discussion on digital citizenship:
-Modeling safe ways for students to become ethical digital citizens
-Hoping it will have a trickle down effect of anti bullying
-Using content keeper as our filtering service. Different levels for each level of school (elementary, middle, high school)
-Using LanSchool. Allows teachers to see their screens. Can freeze screens, send each screen a link, can shut down screens.
-Guide students how to use technology properly, learning consequences for misusing technology at school
-We sign acceptable use policy at the beginning of the year
-We use ipads K-1, chromebooks 2-5, and ipads in STEM throughout the year
-Can teachers block websites? Yes. Can send them to the district and they can block it.
-Trying to channel students with an aptitude for circumventing safeguards or coding towards productive practices (STEAM squad, robotics league, 3rd grade does coding bits).
-Do we have enough information about filters? Yes.
-Our coordinator sends out monthly parent square technology tips, also sends monthly tips to teachers. Educating at home.
-Educating students with digital citizenship standards. Using Thrive Time. Used to be in STEM but they now do it in library and home room.
-Digital citizenship week is Oct 14-16. Daily announcements, games, lessons, rewards. Turned some graphics into stickers. They reward students with stickers when they see it in practice.
-Have we received enough information about educations efforts? Yes.
-District is being proactive about AI at high school and middle school levels.
-Does the SCC believe the school has a viable plan to present important citizenship and digital safety information to parents and community? Yes.
Ms. Stacy – safe walking routes:
-Reviewing safe routes plan from last year
-Looking into snow removal for sidewalks and catwalk, as well. Who is responsible?
-Requesting a crosswalk across Campus Drive/Cinnabar Drive to allow safe access.
-Requesting a blinking pedestrian light for the crosswalk across 2700 East in front of the school.
-Cars parked on 2700 E facing north, just south of the crossing guard (at 7115 S), block visibility and put her in a blind spot. Request a red curb or no parking signage.
