Welcome – Ms. Stacy

Budgets and plans for next year – Discussion:

Excess budget used for classroom supplies, Mcgraw Hill kits that go with science units.

We should be right below 10% for next year. The excess will carry over.

Internet Filtering Options and Tech Safety – Discussion:

Some 5th graders figured out if they use nearpod they have full access to youtube.

Also seeing an increase in student behaviors due to use of technology.

Trying to decide if CSD should have a districtwide restriction of websites (even more).

Biggest search is “how to unblock”.

Parents can request higher level of filtering.

Parents can receive reports about self harm searches.

Parents can receive reports about the amount of time students are logged into their chromebooks.

Administration has been auditing classrooms to monitor quality and quantity of screentime.

More than 500 sites have been reviewed by CSD by request.

CSD meets weekly to review requests.

Working on the implementation of Bark.

Average minutes per day CSD elementary students are logged into chromebooks: 39

Immediate actions being taken by our school:

Students cannot use chromebooks for free time.

Block media file share filtering category and add back appropriate apps.

CSD will provide regular digital citizenship updates and information to families.

Our filtering system:

Content Keeper was put into place in 2019.

Designed to keep students from accessing inappropriate material.

Filtering system works by looking at known content issues and blocking inappropriate categories.

Filtering levels differ by school level.

Discussion about CSD eliminating elementary students from accessing accounts during a defined set of hours after school hours and on weekend?

  1. No change
  2. All elementary level put on “highly restrictive” level
  3. All elementary level chromebooks put on highly restrictive but parents can opt out

CSD collecting input on this decision from SCC, BLT’s, parent feedback.

Wondering about limiting from 5pm-8am. Only a problem if students have homework, and working parents need to assist after working hours.

Aubrey would like highest level of filtering in her classroom.

If we do highest filter, can they still do their work effectively? Aubrey says yes for 3rd grade.

We think we are in favor of number 2. We think if one student has less restrictive access, the whole class will see it. Keep it number 2.

Motion to approve March minutes – Christine Phillips. Seconded by Natalie Bletzacker.

Amber Schill: district is starting a committee over the summer that can work on white list of websites that are approved. Canyoneering night, not well attended. The Coddling of the American Mind by the same author as The Anxious Generation is a recommended book.

Motion to adjourn – Christine Phillips. Seconded by Natalie Bletzacker.

Next meeting – September 2025.
