Looked at finalized TSSP and LAND Trust plans for next school year:

Academic Goal 1: 80% of students in grades K-2 will show proficiency in phonics skills according to 95% Unit Assessments. 80% of students in grades 3-5 will show proficiency in grade level reading standards.

Gave teachers freedom to assess only on standards taught, can take away or add pieces of assessment that count towards their proficiency.

Steps: Increasing BTSA teacher hours for supports. Five instructional aides. Teachers get a substitute for one half day to examine data and make instructional expectations. Teachers get stipends for 2 days in the summer for planning in order to align content standards. Students provided with relevant partner reading practice and increased opportunities to read during the day. Provide substitutes for PLT meetings every other month. Purchase Morpheme Magic (math program) from 95% group to help 4th grade students understand morphemes and increase comprehension in reading. Butler Faculty will host a Reading Night to help parents know how to better support their students in the area of reading. Purchase take home books matched to the 95% core lessons through Express readers to help Kindergarten students apply their phonics skills to reading.

Academic Goal 2: 80% of students in grades K-5 will show proficiency in grade level math standards as measured by Amplify Desmos.

Teachers receive professional learning on and plan for productive struggle to ensure that students are developing the proper skills. Math night, teacher stipends for 2 summer planning days, math manipulatives daily, teachers will be provided with substitutes for one half day to examine data and make instructional adjustments.

School Climate Goal: Office referrals at Butler Elementary will decrease by 10% from 160 at the end of March to 144.

Steps: We will increase the school social worker hours in order to provide increased support for students who need assistance regulating their emotions. Hire two part time behavior assistants and increase hours for the third. Students will receive instruction on how to request breaks when needed.

Motion to approve plan – Annalisa Spencer. Seconded by Aubrey Doyle. Vote was in the unanimous. Council signed signature pages to approve plan.

Review current year LAND Trust plan:

We may need to amend in this year’s plan in April because our salary/hourly assistants’ budget is low (48% and 41% for the year) because of travel of assistants, etc. We could use it for subs at the end of the year so teachers have a planning day, maybe to plan math or reading night next year. May also use to order books. Ms. Stacy will send Annalisa a list to see if PTA scholastic points can support. Ms. Stacy will watch that budget and we will decide in April.

Review Positive Behavior Plan:

Positive behavior plan is due in April. Kelsey Weaver writes it. It asks, “What learning opportunities and/or activities will your school provide to teach students about peer pressure, mental health and creating positive relationships?” We say thrive time, girls support group, botvin lifeskills, morning meetings, calm corners. Our plan does not change much year to year.

Discussion about why we don’t hold a boys group, and how to hold boys accountable as well. Would love more opportunities to build positive masculinity. Rich believes boys hold onto things as well, they just come out later in other ways. Maybe there is an opportunity in the PTA to work on a club or a night with positive male roles and some guided discussion?

Motion to adjourn – Abby Bacon. Seconded by Christine. All in favor.

Next meeting April 14.
