Welcome, Ms. Stacy.
Mrs. Lightel is visiting to present our digital safety plan:
Digital citizenship is the ability to recognized the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected world by acting safely, legally and ethically. (district website reference)
Showed a video from district website specifically for SCC’s about digital citizenship
Our responsibility is to: advise and make recommendations to school district administrators, and engage and support the digital citizenship plan at the school level.
Our district uses content keeper for online content filtering. Parents can go in and select the level of filtering their student has.
Lanschool is used in the classroom so the teacher has control over Chromebook being used in their class. Tcp.canyonsdistrict.org is the website used for parents to login and select a student’s filtering level and sign up for notifications on inappropriate searches.
Butler students use ipads in K-1 and Chromebooks in grades 2-5. Stem uses ipads in all grades. Substitutes are not allowed to used Chromebooks because they are not trained on Lanschool.
Teachers guide appropriate use of technology and define clear expectations and procedures. During registration, parents are supposed to read a technology procedure contract with their student but most parents do not.
SCC Feedback:
Do we have enough info: Yes.
- We wish we could get more search feedback for our own student in elementary school, but we need the Chromebook serial number. Chromebooks are also shared between DLI students.
- Is there a better way to educate parents on how to monitor their own student? Canvas messaging, etc.
- Most elementary classrooms don’t use canvas. But they need to use canvas for virtual learning days and prep for middle school, etc.
- Maybe the district could make a how-to video for parents.
Digital citizenship week is held in October of each year. Teachers are trained annually on how to incorporate curriculum into their week. Additionally, elementary uses thrive time lessons (6). They spread them throughout the year. Canyonsdistrict.org/familyconnections is the website to go to if parents have questions about technology use or resources. District also holds canyoneering nights with a range of topics throughout the year.
Do we have enough info? Yes.
Do we believe we have a viable plan to present important Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship information to parents in the community? Yes.
Safety plan:
- Camera update in the rear of the school and maybe motion lights.
- Ask district for another recess aide OR 30 more mins in the cafeteria so we can spread out lunches and recess (no visibility for aides in front and back at same time)
- Lunchroom/gym do not have interior locks. We need them for a lockdown situation. Requesting those.
