Welcome – Christine Philips

1. Vote to approve minutes from last month: Motion to approve minutes from last month – Christine Philips. Seconded by Natalie Bletzacker. Approved unanimously

2. Review current year LAND Trust plan, data, expenditures: We reviewed data last meeting. We only hired 5 instructional aides this year because we anticipated a lower land trust budget this year. Our current LAND Trust budget is at $98,958. This includes carryover from last year. Website says $95K but needs to be updated. We spend around $6K on subs for teachers to attend Building Leadership Team meetings. We spend almost $84K on reading and math aide salaries, and also a behavior assistant. $1700 spent on Grace Dearbourne training for teachers. $7K spent on benefits for hourly assistants. If we have excess, we will vote on how to spend it near the end of the year.

3. Finalize safe walking routes report, vote for approval:

Catwalk discussion from last year’s safe walking report. Cottonwood Heights City owns the catwalk but the school is responsible to remove snow. The city will trim bushes. Jeremy trimmed them before school started but neighbors got upset. The catwalk stairs aren’t ADA compliant but are intended for neighborhood children & families to access only. We are asked to drop off on school property (in front).

Crosswalk visibility discussion: There is no parking within 30’ of the crosswalk. The city can paint the curbs red near that catwalk after winter. A student was hit last year but it was a middle school student before our crossing guard was on duty.

Working on safe routes plan for next year. Ask district to communicate with middle school about their students using their manned crosswalks. We will include a follow-up to painted curbs and request no parking signs there. Also requesting blinking crosswalk signs. We think city code says 20’ instead of 30’ (distance you can park from a crosswalk).  Is there overhead street lighting there? Requesting assessment of overhead street lights right there for increased visibility.

Christy Philips motioned to approve safe walking routes plan. Seconded by Aubrey Doyle. Approved unanimously.

Abby brought up that our catwalk gate is often not locked during the day, as it should be per our safety plan. It is closed and latched but not locked. Ms. Stacy will look into it.

Also, next month we will discuss better cameras in back. Last weekend some teenagers threw molotov cocktails at the wall-ball wall. Our current cameras do not have night vision.

4. Update bylaws:

How many members we want to have: 10. Annalisa Spencer motioned to keep number of members at 10. Seconded by Abby Bacon. All in favor.

How many seats up for election each year – rotate half of members every other year. Even years: 5 parents, Teacher A up for election. Odd year seats up for election: Teacher B, 5 parents. Positions of chair, vice chair and secretary are elected each year. Motion to approve bullet point point 6 – Abby Bacon. Seconded by Richard Medina. All in favor.

Determine how many missing meetings a member could have in a school year: 2 unexcused.
