SCC minutes
April 2, 2013
1. Welcome
2. Christy presented the SCC with the Land Trust Plan. All at the meeting approved the plan.
Megan Randazzo took a few minutes to talk about Reading Rocks. She was able to show the progress the students have been able to make with the Tier 2 interventions. We discussed how important the reading rocks aides are and hope that we can have 3 aides next year.
We also discussed how much Joyce Prior does for the school and how important she is to the school. We had a discussion about how the students struggle with their keyboarding skills. There was a question if we should have an after school typing program available to students that a parent volunteer could run. Perhaps we could make a list of Internet resources that parents can have their children practice typing at home.
3. Fundraiser-
Entertainment went bankrupt but we are still able to have our cookie dough fundraiser. The kick off assembly is tomorrow (April 3). The money will go towards field trips for next year.
Christy also talked about wanting to purchase some sets of iPad minis for classroom use. She can get a set of 10 for $3,000. She has the money to buy one set but hopes to get money to buy at least one more. Maybe we can get the money from the cookie dough, but also discussed the need to branch out to the community and ask businesses if they would like to donate toward iPads.
4. We were able to get enough FTE so that we don’t have to have teachers move grades, or have any half time teachers like 5th grade has this year.
5. Stacey Skelton had questions about the science fair this year and why we didn’t have one. The teachers sent a survey home and the parents chose to have the science fair optional. Perhaps it could be an afterschool program for those students who do want to participate next year.
