School Community Council

The School Community Council at Butler Elementary School consists of parents and teachers who work together to benefit all of the students. During the 2008-2009 school year, the School Comprehensive Improvement Plan (CSIP) focused on reading and mathematics instruction. The specific goals for the CSIP were to reduce the number of students scoring on Levels 1 and 2 on both the Math CRT and the English Language Arts CRT by ten percent.
Trust Lands funds supported these two goals.
The monies were used to hire a literacy intervention aide who worked under the direction of Mrs. McKay, the balanced literacy facilitator. This program assisted 50 students who were identified as below grade level reading. Also Trust Lands monies were used to hire four mathematics instructional aides.
These individuals worked in the classrooms with the teachers to help struggling math students. The charts to the right illustrate the effectiveness of these interventions:

Trust Lands and CSIP funding will continue to support the reading and math intervention programs during the 2009-2010 school year. The meeting schedule for the School Community Council is tentatively set for the first Wednesday of each month except for March when it will be held on the second Wednesday because of parent/teacher conferences. Our meetings are held in the media center. You are always welcome to attend these meetings.
